Besides Reinach being handed a starting berth, there was also no space in the 23 for Trevor Nyakane or Jasper Wiese. In addition, Lukhanyo Am was also excluded altogether. The Boks have opted for a 5-3 split on the bench, with experienced trio Faf de Klerk, Handre Pollard and Willie Le Roux as the backline options.
Faf de Klerk is more defensively astute than Reinach, and he’s more accurate with his box-kicking, so his skills will be helpful when the Springboks aim to close out the game at the sharp end. Similarly, Handre Pollard’s savvy and big-game temperament will come in handy when push comes to shove.
