Opinion: We live in a desert so forget green roadsides [Opinion]
Thank you for your insightful letter pointing out that we do not need to be watering landscapes along the sides of freeways. There is a terrible lack of publicity for our current drought conditions. This situation is urgent and ongoing.
It’s sad that our fine local newspaper thinks that it is only necessary to mention the drought and water-saving measures when there is some headline news. There should be a designated space where drought statistics are given, either every day or once or twice a week. I would like to see a reporter gather information on how many gallons of water are wasted on freeway irrigation. Who is controlling the “faucet” there? To what bureaucratic department should we address our concerns that water be conserved?
I’m sure there are many other entities to be approached besides we homeowners, many of whom are already conserving to the maximum.
