Opinion | 'The district’s inability to dramatically improve left no alternative. After nearly a decade of working with the district to rectify its systemic failures, the state board ran out of options.'
Year after year, the district has fallen short of steps to improve its academic performance. And with each passing year, the district’s 6,600 students — many from lower-income households that struggle as it is for educational opportunities — have paid the price. They have been shortchanged.
In 2018, the state board granted Adams 14’s request to bring in an outside management firm to boost district performance. The firm was just starting to have a positive effect, according to a State Review Panel report, when Adams 14’s leadership fired the firm earlier this year. We have seen our turnaround partnerships with districts work. The current leadership at Adams 14 never seemed to give it a chance.
