Opinion: Piping in water to California should not be a pipe dream [Opinion]

” : As you point out in your article, the megadrought we are experiencing is caused in part by fossil fuel burning.

However, even if we were able to stop burning fossil fuels immediately, the global warming situation causing it would prevail for years to come, because of the accumulation of heat-trapping gases, such as carbon dioxide, in the upper atmosphere, due to fossil fuel burning in the past, beginning in the Industrial Revolution.

Therefore, to reduce the megadrought situation now, it seems reasonable, as others have proposed, to pipe in water from areas in the Midwest and East that experience annual flooding. Since there are no technical problems in doing this, I believe the reason this hasn’t been done is something of a mystery, which I leave to others to resolve.
