We seem to sit back and expect others to fight our battles and hand over representation on a silver platter. Weep no more, my friends . Get over it. Get off that couch and do something for yourselves. Start by using the power found at the voting booth.
For decades, our long pathetic voting record has been a shameful one. There's no point in sugarcoating it. It’s a fact and until that changes, the status quo will prevail. I am 83 years old and have witnessed firsthand our penchant for neglecting voting responsibilities. Instead, we pivot towards activities with little or no redeeming value, thus leaving others to represent our best interests at City Hall. The notion that Latinos are underrepresented is a brutal fact, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that that reality is of our own doing.
