” : I have long read and appreciated Robert Pincus’ erudition and thoughtful musing about the shows he covered at MOPA.

Having been on the board of MOPA for more than 30 years, I’ve been to more of its shows and openings than many, and have devoted much of my own time and treasure to MOPA’s works. I don’t disagree with much of what he says in his article, but lament he suggested an earlier change to a different curator/director might have produced a different outcome.Having had the benefit of working with Arthur Ollman and Deborah Klochko, I enjoyed both their points of view, but learned from both that a small fine arts museum can’t survive without a substantial endowment to support it.

It was the lack of that factor that drove MOPA to the San Diego Museum of Art, where shows and exhibits will continue to be as brilliant as the next curator creates.
