On Dec. 2, it was an honor and privilege to be sworn in as your new representative in the California State Assembly. That day, I walked through the hallowed halls of the Capitol with my family to the Assembly Chamber. As I stood on that green carpet for the first time, I thought of home, our community, and, more importantly, how best to support and represent the people within it.
Throughout the campaign, I witnessed these struggles firsthand. Each day, as I knocked on doors, attended community events and talked to local business owners, I heard similar stories from neighbors and friends. Families were working harder than ever, but falling further behind. Many contemplated leaving the region, disheartened by the lack of meaningful change or access to services they need.
Like the electoral process, the legislative process works best when it starts from the ground up. My first day in office, for example, was spent drafting legislation to protect schools and institutions from dangerous threats — an issue raised by parents in our community, concerned about the safety of their children in our schools. Every day, I meet with ordinary people who have extraordinary ideas about how to solve real problems they are facing.
To truly serve our district, it is essential to pair impactful policy work with unwavering support for the community. While I will work with organizations and lawmakers of all ideologies to deliver results for our district, my district office will ensure that community members can fully benefit from these efforts by improving access to state resources and providing clear guidance for navigating them.
