Opinion: House Jan. 6 panel keeps making its case against Donald Trump stronger with each witness [Opinion]

event occurred because a sitting autocratic president, without credible evidence, falsely declared that the election he lost was fraudulent and exhorted his followers to forcefully restore him to power against the will of the majority of this country’s voting citizenry.

The election precipitating the upheaval was declared valid by state governments, the U.S. Attorney General, federal and state courts, the U.S. Supreme Court, and federal and state election officials, regardless of party. His army of followers, however, believed the lie and coalesced into an irate and inflamed mob that stormed the capitol, intent on hanging a sitting Republican vice president and killing or capturing sitting congresspersons. Violence was not a secondary effect – it was a planned and coordinated means to an end. It was insurgency born of sedition.

American democracy may have its problems, but I do not accept autocratic mobocracy as a form of government.
