Opinion: Gender-affirming care decisions should be up to doctors and families, not politicians [Opinion]
Unfortunately, we are seeing the harm that can be done and the negative impacts of laws banning access to safe health care for transgender and gender-diverse youth. Some patients and families are moving or traveling out of state to receive this life affirming care.
Many families do not have the resources to do this and may need to forgo care. There are also concerns that the passage of these laws may lead to further stigmatization of trans identities and prevent youth from seeking the care they need. Limited or delayed access to this care could lead to worse mental health outcomes for these young people.
