Re “Seals and sea lions policies need to be examined” : The claim that degradation and dangers at Scripps Park La Jolla are caused by protecting local seals and sea lions is blatantly biased. Official reports show the overall populations are stable.
A realistic appraisal should consider the intense commercial promotion of our local beaches causing an explosion of the variety of recreational users. The increase in vendors is due to the relaxation on regulations since the pandemic. City maintenance services are unable to keep up with expanded usage., “There is no evidence of adult white sharks using La Jolla as a hunting ground.” There is evidence that juvenile sharks and humans coexist peacefully, and shark attacks are very rare.
