Opinion: California's utility companies must not stall efforts to shift to solar power [Opinion]
” : While the California Public Utilities Commission is slowing the process to raise solar rates, it will keep trying. This is going back on the goal to make solar cost-effective while lowering stress on the grid.
Missing from the coverage is benefits to the grid operators who need not run their peaker plants or build new ones. Perhaps demonstrations organized by the solar community would help. For example, announcing a date and time when solar owners would shut their solar breakers for 10 minutes. If one demonstration doesn’t work, then perhaps daily during afternoon rush hour?
Benefits of solar have not been sufficiently explained as the utilities attempt to increase their income. California could consider using some of the billions in surplus to buy the utilities, eliminate the profit motive and put the employees on the state pay scale.
