#MeToo leader, forced marriage survivor call out state’s outdated law that can lead to ‘Kafkaesque nightmare’ for minors

Child marriage is not a “right,” it is a “human rights abuse.
That means a California girl of any age can legally be trafficked for her citizenship — in other words, forced to marry an adult man from overseas so he can get a U.S. visa. It also means California men can legally import child brides of any age from overseas. (Nearly all theChild marriage gives a “get out of jail free” card to would-be child rapists, because statutory rape within marriage is not a sexual and reproductive rights.
They also claim banning child marriage would be “denying these young people the right to marry.” But minors do not have that right; a judge and a parent or guardian may enter them into marriage, with no real recourse for a minor who does not want to marry. Alyssa Milano is an actress, producer, activist and former singer who played a crucial role in launching the #MeToo movement in October 2017. She lives in Ventura County.
