Now in August I’m still waiting to go to the dentist. As a kitchen worker I see daily how careless management is when it comes to our health and society. In the Harris County jail there is no functioning dishwasher. It’s been down for months. So utensils are washed most often with a garden hose on the fly or occasionally in the triple sink with no soap or chemicals. It’s scary in these times.

But what we don’t see is the men who get released on bond and go back to providing for their families. Or the child who doesn’t have to cry themselves to sleep at night because mom is back home. Or the grandmother who doesn’t have to pay near-extortionary prices through Securus just to hear their grandchild’s voice .
