Opinion: As San Diego's annual homeless population count begins, why the day matters to everyone [Opinion]
Homelessness is often at the forefront of conversations in San Diego, whether it’s mayors centering the issue and explaining how they’ll address it — better than the last person, they’ll suggest in their annual State of the City addresses — or whether it’s sheltered residents, business owners and others noting that the homeless population of the city — any city, your city — seems bigger than it’s ever been.
Today, the region will — again — begin to get its arms around the issue of perpetual homelessness, which has doubled in the past year in Downtown San Diego and increasingly occupies more and more of city leaders’ attention and limited resources.
