Bucks ‘openly sobbing’, Eddie ‘like a boy’ as Pies giants reveal emotional GF outpouring
Nathan Buckley and Eddie McGuire – two of the biggest and most influential figures in Collingwood’s history – have opened up about their respective emotional rollercoasters during the Magpies’ Grand Final triumph.
“But the ride on Saturday was as emotional as I’ve ever been a part of. There were things coming out of me that I didn’t know were in there. Later in the show, Buckley said he had “mixed emotions” when the game finished, but stressed “most of them were euphoria”. He said he was “openly sobbing at the final siren”.
Former Pies president McGuire, who led the club for 23 years before stepping down in early 2021, said he felt “like the boy in 1977 again except this time we won”. “My old mate Jeff Browne and I were together when I took over the place, it’s just a wonderful thing.”
