OpenAI introduces Deep Research, a new AI agent within ChatGPT designed to help users conduct in-depth research by analyzing vast amounts of online information and generating comprehensive reports.

OpenAI continues its mission to develop more independent AI models, taking another step towards creating AI agents. The company has launched a new tool within ChatGPT called Deep Research , designed to assist users in conducting in-depth research. This agent leverages reasoning capabilities to analyze vast amounts of online information and handle complex, multi-step research tasks.

Deep Research can effectively summarize and synthesize data from hundreds of online sources, generating detailed reports in minutes that would take humans hours to compile. Users can also leverage this tool for personalized recommendations, particularly for significant purchases requiring extensive research, such as automobiles, appliances, or furniture. Deep Research operates similarly to OpenAI's other recent advancements, being currently accessible only to paying Pro users with a monthly limit of 100 queries. Access will gradually expand to Plus and Team users, followed by Enterprise users. OpenAI is also working on rolling out Deep Research to users in the UK, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area. To enhance user experience, OpenAI plans to introduce a faster version of Deep Research powered by a smaller model that maintains high-quality results. As of now, Deep Research is exclusively available on the ChatGPT web version, with mobile and desktop app support anticipated within the month. On the surface, Deep Research appears promising and could revolutionize knowledge-based work. Its functionality closely resembles Google Gemini's Deep Research feature, launched last year for paying users. Both tools aim to accelerate research by delivering results in minutes instead of hours. However, it is too early to definitively determine which tool proves more accurate in real-world applications, considering OpenAI's Deep Research is newly launched and not yet widely available. It's important to note that while both tools offer valuable assistance, they are not infallible, and hallucinations can occur. Therefore, exercising caution and verifying information from multiple sources is recommended
