OpenAI has made a major move against online disinformation by uncovering and stopping five hidden influence campaigns that used its AI technology.

In a previously unknown effort, Russian actors targeted Ukraine, Moldova, the Baltic States, and the United States, generating comments on the war in Ukraine and political situations in these regions via the Telegram messaging service. These campaigns, however, struggled to gain significant traction or expand their reach., which used AI to debug code, analyze social media, and research current events.

OpenAI is leveraging its own AI-powered tools to more efficiently investigate and disrupt these foreign influence operations.
