'Before we take any votes, the IPS Board needs to hear from the people of Indianapolis ― it is our duty to ensure that the values and priorities that you share remain front and center.'

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn’t be prouder of our IPS students and grateful to Indianapolis Public Schools families and partners for trusting IPS and our devoted educators. There was no playbook for the COVID-19 crisis and this community united to meet the educational, social emotional, technological and nutritional needs of all children.

These are all steps in the right direction, but real challenges remain. We continue to see outcomes lagging for our most marginalized students. As a matter of fact, 1 in 20 Black students, and 1 and 13 Latino students are on grade level per the 2021-2022 ILEARN assessment. For students who qualify for free and reduced lunch, 1 in 13 students are on grade level as well.

As a result of this engagement, IPS administration recently presented the Rebuilding Stronger draft plan to increase programmatic offerings, grow great schools and increase access through choice. To achieve these objectives, hard decisions and tradeoffs must be made to ensure that every student in IPS has access to an excellent and equitable learning experience.
