Marvel's Deadpool has given the Avengers' heroes some great nicknames over the years, but he can't give one to a certain member.
The Avengers are among the many heroes who have been given ridiculous and embarrassing nicknames from Deadpool, but for Hawkeye, not even the Merc with the Mouth could figure out a new one for him. In the Hawkeye and Deadpool story from A + X #8 by Marvel Comics, Deadpool tried his best to make fun of the Avengers' archer by giving him a nickname fitting of his skills.
However, for Hawkeye, he's heard it all before and is immune to Deadpool's antics. Hawkeye is a valued member of the Avengers, but his lack of superpowers often makes him the butt of many jokes, as Clint Barton is a regular guy with incredible archery skills playing alongside gods and monsters regularly. However, Hawkeye's humanity and skills still play an important role in the Avengers adventures, even if he's made fun of regularly - including in his own Disney+ series, where Kate Bishop's Hawkeye mistakes a Katniss Everdeen cosplayer for someone dressed as the hero. Bishop noted Clint's problem is branding, which is true, as he could use some good PR to boost his name to the general public. But Hawkeye ended up being immune to one thing other heroes couldn't avoid: Deadpool's nicknames.A + X #8 by Christopher Hastings, Reilly Brown, Brad Armstrong, and VC's Clayton Cowles by Marvel Comics featured an enjoyable team-up with Hawkeye and Deadpool. In the issue, Deadpool and Hawkeye head after a group of pirates trying to launch a submarine for unknown 'villain reasons.' When Hawkeye executes a great shot with bow and arrow, trapping some pirates behind an exploding door, Deadpool can't help but try to give him a nickname. He runs through a batch of them, calling Clint"Legolas,""Hunger Games," and"the girl from Brave," but Hawkeye ends up being immune to the nicknames, telling the Merc with a Mouth he's heard them all before. Deadpool has annoyed his fellow heroes and Avengers with nicknames, from calling Cable"Priscilla," Wolverine"Number Ten," as opposed to Weapon X, and in his live-action movie, referring to Teenage Negasonic Teenager as"Sinead O'Connor." Wade Wilson regularly uses his wealth of pop culture knowledge when giving nicknames, but in this case, Hawkeye has heard just about every archer joke he could think of. Ultimately, Deadpool settles on"Fox's version of Robin Hood," which Clint doesn't seem bothered by at all, responding"sure" to his new nickname.Deadpool struggling to give Hawkeye a nickname shows that Clint Barton's skill set has already led to being referred to as every archer in pop culture. For Hawkeye, that means he's surprisingly immune to one of Deadpool's greatest skills in coming up with hilarious and embarrassing names. In this case, for once, Hawkeye can do what his Avengers' can't.
