Mazda’s redesigned 2026 CX-5 brings new tech and higher prices, but the hybrid option is still a year away
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 will start at $29,990. New crossover arrives in the “coming months.” Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder has 187 hp and 186 lb-ft. Mazda introduced the redesigned CX-5 last year and now the company has announced pricing will begin at $29,990 before a $1,495 destination fee.
That’s an increase of $940 and it means the model is now $90 more expensive than the similar CX-50. Ignoring the product overlap, the lineup begins with the entry-level CX-5 2.5 S. Mazda didn’t say much about it, but the crossover sports LED headlights and 17-inch wheels. It’s also worth noting the redesigned model is 4.5 inches longer than its predecessor and has an extra 3 inches between the wheels. The display also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but it’s an old school wired setup. Other highlights include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and an eight-speaker audio system. Despite its entry-level status, the S comes with a host of standard driver assistance systems including Traffic Sign Recognition and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Speed Limit Assist. The crossover also has Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Pedestrian Detection, and Emergency Lane Keeping. Other notable safety features include Smart Brake Support, Vehicle Exit Warning, and a rearview camera with dynamic lines as well as a tow hitch guide. CX-5 2.5 S Select The $31,990 CX-5 2.5 S Select is worth the extra money as it comes with an assortment of popular features. This includes cloth and leatherette seats, a wireless smartphone charger, and keyless entry. Buyers will also find an auto-dimming rearview mirror, illuminated sun visors, rear air vents, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. They’re joined by privacy glass as well as heated side mirrors with an auto folding function. CX-5 2.5 S Preferred The mid-level CX-5 2.5 S Preferred begins at $34,250 and is distinguished by roof rails and larger 19-inch wheels. The model also has a power liftgate and a windshield wiper de-icer. The upgrades continue inside with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Speaking of which, the driver’s seat has 10-way power adjustment as well as a memory function. Buyers will also find a color head-up display and a Homelink garage door opener. CX-5 2.5 S Premium Customers looking for more luxury can opt for the $36,900 Premium. It adopts a dark design with black trim and black metallic 19-inch wheels. The model also sports a panoramic glass roof and fancier lighting units with “signature illumination.” Inside, there are heated and ventilated leather front seats with power adjustment on both sides. The crossover also has heated rear seats, a color-selectable ambient lighting system, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. They're accompanied by rear USB-C charging ports and support for SiriusXM satellite radio. CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus Last but not least is the range-topping CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus, which will set you back $38,990. It adds a hands-free power liftgate as well as an adaptive front lighting system. Buyers will also find a larger 15.6-inch infotainment system, paddle shifters, and a driver personalization system. More notably, the crossover gains Cruising and Traffic Support with Lane Change Assist. It combines adaptive cruise control with a lane centering function as well as an automatic lane change feature. The latter can be activated by using the turn signal and the vehicle will complete the maneuver when it’s safe to do so. That’s a welcome addition and the system is joined by Driver Monitoring and Front Cross Traffic Alert / Braking. There’s also a 360° View Monitor. A Familiar Four-Cylinder, But A Hybrid Is On The Way Regardless of which trim is selected, all models are powered by a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine that produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system. In 2027, Mazda will offer a hybrid powertrain that uses their new SkyActiv-Z engine. The company hasn’t said much about this variant, but it promises to deliver a “higher level of performance and fuel efficiency.” 2026 Mazda CX-5 Pricing TrimMSRPCX-5 2.5 S$29,990CX-5 2.5 S Select$31,990CX-5 2.5 S Preferred$34,250CX-5 2.5 S Premium$36,900CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus$38,990 Prices exclude a $1,495 destination fee
