The end of One Piece's Egghead Island arc featured the series' most gruesome character death. However, his many and incredibly vile actions were absolutely deserving of the fate he received.

Why Saturn Deserved The Brutal Death He Got The Egghead Arc Is Considered To Be The Beginning Of One Piece's Final Saga Close The Celestial Dragons and the Five Elders have previously been connected to many vile events, but the Egghead arc took their reputation for viciousness to the next level. Besides Luffy's crew and Dr.Vegapunk, the arc also heavily focused on the incredibly tragic tale of Jewelry Bonney and her father, Bartholomew Kuma, whose history may be One Piece's saddest.
Kuma's life mission became to take care of Bonney, and eventually, he traveled the world in search of a cure for his adopted daughter before the sickness claimed her. He eventually found someone who could help and someone who'd grow into a dear friend, Dr.Vegapunk. However, he was already under the control of the World Government, working under none other than Saint Saturn.
