Netflix's One Piece is cruising into season 2, and a mere month away from its release on March 10, 2026, creator Eiichiro Oda put out a letter expressing his excitement for its success so far. Reaching Top 10 positions across 93 countries, and securing a #1 spot for viewers in 46 of those nations, Oda expressed even greater ambitions.
In the letter posted by Oda and shared by Netflix Anime's X account, One Piece is expected to shatter even the impressive conventions established by season 1. The Straw Hats are going into the Grand Line, and to match the ambitions of its beloved crew, Oda wants One Piece season 2 to reach viewers around the world. One Piece Creator Wants the Netflix Series Dominating Worldwide While it is reasonable for any creator to want a Netflix adaptation of their work, provided they're happy with it, to do well, Oda has high hopes for One Piece. While not explicitly stating he wants it to reach #1 status, it can certainly be implied as a stretch goal for the series. Oda's words are as follows: It's almost ready!! With season 1, we faced the world's question head-on: 'Can ONE PIECE really be adapted into live-action?!' – and the answer spoke for itself, reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries and territories, and No. 1 in 46! Together with the stellar production team that delivered those brilliant results, we bring you season 2, which will lead into the Grand Line, the most formidable sea in the world. In other words, all the conventions that were established in season 1 will be shattered. A parade of Devil Fruit users, a race of giants never before seen, adorable creatures, hard-hitting action, and stunning VFX – this season is packed with even more highlights!! With a steady feed of hype over the past year in particular, it seems perfectly reasonable for it to"reach every adventurous spirit across the world." Ideally, this would mean helping the live-action chart across nearly double its first season's Top 10 presence, with hopes to reach the 190 countries wired into Netflix's services. Given the franchise's established presence, and season 1 proving strong as a proof-of-concept, it has a strong shot at charting well, and indeed seizing that coveted #1 English TV spot worldwide. Netflix's One Piece Takes Victory Lap in Defying Live-Action Curse Thanks to a combination of careful casting, strict cooperation with its creator, and fittingly impressive production values while retaining its cartoonish soul, One Piece is looking as good as ever in season 2. This includes moments like fans losing their minds over Miss All Sunday and glimpses of a powerfully emotional Chopper introduction. Given that the production is an international collaboration between Western and Japanese creatives, as well as talent carefully chosen from increasingly diverse corners of the world to fit their characters' backgrounds, it's already a less cynical product as a result. Instead of distilling beloved characters and stories into more typical Westernized formulas, Netflix's One Piece largely sticks to the script. Still, there are some irksome qualities that are hard to ignore in Netflix's One Piece. While human and fish-man characters have certainly been represented well on-screen, beloved animal moments seem to be potentially cut or overlooked.
