Lyons, N.Y. — One person is dead, one person is in custody after a shooting in Lyons Saturday morning.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office investigates a shooting that left one person dead, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. One person was taken into custody, according to deputies. Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby said that, around 10:30 a.m., Wayne County 911 received calls about a domestic incident on Maple Street .
Once there, deputies found one person who was shot dead inside the residence. According to investigators, they believe the shooting did not happen in the house. With the help of the New York State Police Aviation unit, investigators were able to locate the individual and took the person into custody. "There were reported incidents that there was an active shooter in progress," said Milby. "That rumor kind of got out of control, but I'm here to dispel any of those rumors. At no point was there an active shooter situation in the hamlet of Lyons."
Milby adds that the Wayne County District was also on the scene investigating. The names of the victim and person taken into custody are not being released at this time.
