More than 150,000 people are expected this weekend for the Peter Anderson Festival in Ocean Springs.

Thousands of people will once again flock to downtown Ocean Springs as the 44th annual Peter Anderson Festival gets underway Saturday morning.The Peter Anderson Festival, the largest fine arts festival in Mississippi and one of the largest in the southeast, will kickoff Saturday morning, with more than 150,000 people expected to attend the event in downtown Ocean Springs on the Mississippi coast.

The event began in 1978 as a means to increase public awareness of local artists. The festival is named in honor of Peter Anderson, the original potter of Shearwater Pottery, founded in 1928.“When we started out, it was mostly to get the local artists to come out and show their wares,” said Margaret Anderson, daughter of Peter Anderson and the festival’s driving force for 26 years. “It went really well.
