A number of homes could now be demolished after a terraced house 'exploded', a councillor has claimed
Shortly after 11am, the quietness of a street in Bury was shattered after a house suddenly exploded. The morning quickly spiralled into utter devastation, one of the 'most difficult days' the neighbourhood has ever seen, as a mid-terraced property erupted into a wall of flames and began crumbling to the ground.
Amid the disastrous scenes, heroic locals reportedly tried to help and rescue a seriously injured woman from the burning house. Witnesses reported seeing a group of men even venture into the backyard of the house hit by the blast amid the major rescue mission, with fire crews and police also called out to the scene as the house slowly crumbled.
Mushtaq Anwar, who was at home with his wife, his daughter, 21, and son, 17, at the time described the horrific scenes. He was in the bathroom and his son was asleep when they heard an almighty blast. Kasim Raja’s home backs on to the scene. He was woken up by a ‘popping’ sound and a car alarm going off. “From my back window, I could see black smoke. People were running out screaming and shouting ‘get out’. I was scared because I thought it was going to spread," he said.
