She’s very shy and hates competition.
My wife and I have three adult sons and five teenage grandsons, ages 15-19. Our youngest son recently married a lovely woman who has two kids of her own. Her son, “Jason,” is 17 and her daughter, “Emma,” is 11. We think they’re great kids and want to make them feel welcome and included in our family.
Our kids all live nearby, and we host family dinners once a month. After dinner, all the adults gather on the deck or in the living room, while the grandkids head down to our basement, where there’s a gaming setup, or they go play basketball in the driveway. Jason is into sports and gaming and bonded with our other grandsons quickly, but Emma is very shy and hates competition, so she’s often left out and doesn’t have anyone to spend time with.
