While Sanfratello was taking the pair into custody in the casino lobby, Wilcox allegedly hit Sanfratello and prompted a struggle between the sergeant and Elmore. "The male defendant removed a large piece of jewelry from around his neck — a chain or a metal thick rope that was used during the struggle," Batavia Police Chief Shawn Heubusch said. "I can't get into the details of what happened with that, but it was used as part of the attack.
Genesee County District Attorney Kevin Finnell declined to share details on what prompted the aggravated manslaughter charge against Elmore.
