One new Covid-19 case in Malaysia, two more discharged

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry says a new case of Covid-19 has been detected, while two more positive cases have made full recovery.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest positive case – the 23rd in the country – is a 53-year-old Malaysian woman, who travelled to Japan recently.

"After arriving back from Japan on Feb 23, the patient developed fever symptoms the following day, and received treatment in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur. A Covid-19 test was done, and it was found to be positive on Wednesday ," he said in a statement on Thursday .They were a 67-year-old woman from China and an 83-year-old female from the United States."Thus, a total of 22 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from the ward," he added.

Dr Hisham noted that up to Thursday , samples from a total of 1,569 individuals had been taken to test for Covid-19. These individuals are from patient-under-investigation , close contact cases, those from the humanitarian mission in Wuhan, and people from the Dream World cruise. "From the total, 23 cases were Covid-19 positive, while 1,523 were negative and 23 cases are pending lab reports," he added.

Dr Hisham noted that a total of 66 individuals had been brought back from Wuhan, China, through the second Humanitarian Mission Aid on Feb 26."Based on the screenings, no individuals have developed any Covid-19 symptoms and they were placed in an observation centre for 14 days," he added.
