The death toll in an outbreak of listeria linked to Boar’s Head deli meat has risen to 10 after a person in New York died this week, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A death was reported this week after a person became infected with listeria linked to Boar’s Head deli meat , U.S. health officials announced – bringing the total deaths in the outbreak to 10. At least 59 people in 19 states have been sickened by the bacteria first detected in liverwurst made at a Boar’s Head plant located in Jarratt, Virginia, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency said illnesses were reported between late May and late August.
The problem was first discovered when a Boar’s Head liverwurst sample collected by health officials in Maryland tested positive for listeria. Further testing showed that the type of bacteria was the same strain causing illnesses in people, according to the CDC.All the recalled deli meats have been removed from stores and are no longer available, Boar’s Head officials said on the company’s website.
