San Antonio police officers shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun at them, Police Chief William McManus said.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said one man was shot by officers on the Southeast Side on Tuesday.A man was taken to a hospital after a shooting on Tuesday involving San Antonio police officers, Police Chief William McManus said.

The officers attempted to stop the man's vehicle on Southcross Ranch Road at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday because he had an active warrant stemming from a domestic violence incident from the day before, the chief said. The man is accused of shooting his girlfriend, who remains hospitalized as of Tuesday.As officers tried to speak to the man, he fled on Southcross before stopping soon after.

The man allegedly pointed a gun at his own head before pointing it at the officers, McManus said. Police officers fired at the man multiple times, hitting him. McManus said he had not watched the body camera footage and didn't know whether the man fired any shots. The chief also couldn't say what condition the man was in, but he noted that the man was talking while being transported to the hospital.
