Still, he wasn’t sold on any of the other candidates either, even as they paraded through his club.

Thiel was a mentor to Vance; he had backed his venture capital firm and in recent years had become a kingmaker for MAGA-aligned Republicans like Vance. He was particularly focused on a handful of races he was pouring millions into, and he flew down to Palm Beach to personally make sure the introduction of Vance to Trump went smoothly.
