Salt Lake City Police officers are investigating a shooting that left one person dead early Saturday. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact slcpd at 801-799-3000.
Authorities responded to a report of a shooting near 500 South Post Street at about 12:54 a.m. Saturday morning, police said. Officers found an individual with at least one gunshot wound at the scene and provided medical aid.
The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance but they later died of their injuries, according to a news release from the department. Information on the victim’s identity was not released by authorities. Officials believe the victim was shot by a suspect standing outside the victim’s car, and that the suspect fired “multiple rounds” into the vehicle while the victim and a passenger sat inside. The passenger was not injured by the gunfire, police said. The suspect then left in another vehicle.
Investigators said the shooting does not appear to be random. Authorities do not yet have any information on the suspect. The department asked that any residents in the area — including those along Post Street, 900 West and 1000 West between 400 South and 600 South — to check any home or business surveillance video between 12:45 a.m. and 1 a.m. for a car fleeing the scene.
