One person has been killed and dozens others injured after heavy winds caused part of the stage at a Spanish music festival to collapse. The ‘extraordinary’ weather conditions also destroyed other infrastructure at the Medusa Festival.

One person has been killed and dozens others injured after heavy winds caused part of the stage at a Spanish music festival to collapse.

Of the injured, three suffered serious trauma injuries and 14 had more minor injuries, regional emergency services tweeted. Regional health authorities said later that 40 people were attended to.The festival is held over six days in the east coast town of Cullera, south of Valencia National broadcaster TVE showed images of strong gusts of wind battering against people’s tents in the middle of the night.

‘Suddenly two police cars appeared and the officers got out and told us to get away from the stage and anything metal.’National weather agency AEMET said there had been ‘strong gusts of wind and a sudden rise in temperatures’ during the night, with gusts of 51 mph recorded at Alicante airport.
