A devastating fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a house near Lancaster, killing one person.

A Fairfield County Sheriff's deputy was the first to arrive on the scene, and he attempted to enter the house to aid anyone inside. Due to the fire burning too hot, he was unsuccessful. He suffered a minor hand injury as a result.
