AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott appears to be undecided on whether he plans to keep his scheduled attendance at a National Rifle Association convention in Houston...

Trump is still going. Other Texas officials including Sen. Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov Dan Patrick are scheduled to attend the Houston event on Friday.

At a news conference in Uvalde, Abbott did not say whether he still plans to attend the annual meeting of the gun lobby group. He, several Texas politicians and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to give remarks at the NRA’s “leadership forum” Friday. Sen. Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick are also scheduled to attend the conference. Neither returned inquiries into whether they still plan to attend the event in the aftermath of Tuesday’s deadly school shooting that has claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults.

“Although an investigation is underway and facts are still emerging, we recognize this was the act of a lone, deranged criminal,” a statement from the organization said. “As we gather in Houston, we will reflect on these events, pray for the victims, recognize our patriotic members, and pledge to redouble our commitment to making our schools secure.”Sen. John Cornyn and U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw were also set to appear at the convention but canceled before Tuesday’s shooting.
