Mayor Muriel Bowser financed a trip to to the Masters tournament with taxpayer dollars.
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser traveled to and attended the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia, “as part of a sports and economic development visit” on official mayoral matters.
The airline flights to and from the tournament were paid with city funds, a spokesperson told DC News Now. The cost of the fights was not released. Bowser was invited to attend the Masters by two people who are leading a city task force “to revitalize the Gallery Place and Chinatown neighborhood,” A very important update to Bowser’s schedule: she’s taking a “sports and economic development visit” to Augusta, Georgia today. That’s a heck of a way to say “I’m gonna go watch the Masters”The mayor is always looking to “advance administrative interests” regardless of setting, according to Castillo, whether “it’s here in the city or another city or another country.”
Last November, the mayor’s office announced that Bowser would travel to Dubai “as part of the US Conference of Mayors delegation for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference.”News of Bowser’s trip to the Masters tournament comes following the city’s struggle to create a balanced budget for 2025, with the city seeking budget cuts for a new program that subsidized the pay of child care and day care workers.
