Households will begin seeing a $6.73 fee for the program on their waste collection utility bills starting in May.A report to the Tuesday afternoon session of council’s transportation committee shows a sharp drop in negative interactions between passengers and bus drivers.Article content Overall, negative incidents between passengers and drivers — anything from a verbal altercation to a physical assault — rose sharply from 2018, hitting a peak of 130 incidents reported in 2020, representing about 28 incidents per million rides. This has come down to 59 incidents in 2022, or just over 12 incidents per million rides.

While incidents involving operators are down, the report shows a rising number of conflicts between passengers on buses; these have jumped from 172 in 2020, representing just over 37 incidents per million rides, to 432 incidents recorded in 2022, or just over 88 incidents per million rides. Intoxication and verbal altercations made up a combined 80 per cent of these reported incidents.
