It was a rainy Friday afternoon when I set out to Ark Studios, a quaint co-working space in Quezon City. Nestled atop a multipurpose building’s fifth floor, its industrial interiors transformed into an art space with interactive pieces fans and the media could hop into.

On the other side of the space, the diligent production crew made sure everything worked smoothly so everyone could enjoy a night filled with music. It’s not the first time I’ve interviewed the young singer-songwriter. When I met him in 2022, he was a meek young man powering through his college internship, still unsure of what to do with his newfound fame. Fast forward to 2024, he is now locked in and is excited to share his music to a broader audience.

Using his Digital Arts degree, Arthur Miguel took a more hands-on approach to deliver a personalized experience for his fans, endearingly called the Miggies. The mini exhibit had a wall of Miguel’s photocards, each with a handwritten note dedicated to whoever gets them.

The 24-year-old’s artistry does not stop at music and design. The young man was proud to show a full sleeve of patchwork tattoos accumulated over time. While he admitted that he got several tattoos on a whim, he revealed that these helped him through a tough time in his life—citing the isolation he felt during the pandemic. These experiences, along with the desire to express his emotions drove him to creating original music.

The MU Photocard wall was filled with his photos, with a handwritten note at the back. Photo: Danielle FrancoPasahili .allowed Miguel to explore new musical territories, and introduced dance-pop elements into his five-track record. One thing remains certain despite these changes: he’s still heavily inspired by his two major influences, Moira dela Torre and Taylor Swift. Having the privilege to witness the latter’s The Eras Tour, Miguel’s took the tour as a sign to work on new music.

In the ever-evolving OPM landscape, Arthur Miguel strives to deliver a unique music experience in his own right. Though often confused with Kagay-anon singer-songwriter Arthur Nery, Miguel took it as an opportunity to work with other amazing acts in the scene today. ‘Sometimes people tag me in Arthur Nery’s content,’ he laughed as he opened prospects about working with his namesake. The dream of working with his biggest local influence, Moira dela Torre is also alive.
