AN infectious disease expert believes that the recent discovery of the XBF Omicron subvariant and other subvariants in the country would not pose a threat in terms of severity even if they can cause increased transmissibility and immune escape.In the latest sequencing report from the Philippine Genome Center from February 7-9, one case of the XBF variant has been detected in the country, while two local cases of XBB 1.5 have also been detected.
The World Health Organization has classified the XBF subvariant as a 'variant under monitoring,'In a televised briefing on Thursday, Dr. Edsel Maurice Salvana of the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital said that the detection of the XBF and XBB.1.5 variants in the country would not cause a sudden spike in cases in the country even if preliminary information suggests increased transmissions and immune evasion.'Itong XBF and XBB.1.
