I’m not going to lie, when I was asked to do ombré nails, I panicked. I was sure it was one of those things that looked easy at first but would quickly become my worst nightmare. I lit a candle, poured myself a cheeky glass of wine, and watched some tutorials to prepare. In my experience, the base coat is key . My second tip: let it dry between applications – super important! I also found it easier to apply if the sponge was wet, as that way it didn’t absorb too much polish.
Being a clean nail kind of gal, I was definitely *not* experienced with this type of nail design. A whole bottle of remover later, my twilight colour nail look wasn't quite as polished as I would have liked – but I did manage to pick up a few tips along the way. A light base layer is key and allows the ombré colours to stick better. After letting this first layer dry completely, I would also recommend wetting a sponge for little colour reabsorption.
As a complete nail novice, I’m sure there are loads more pro tips circulating on TikTok. But, for a first attempt, I was pretty chuffed my accessory-matching look was complete.I’ve always envied those elite girls that could do their own nail art, on both hands, quickly and efficiently, with a professional-looking finish. Any hacks or tricks to make my manis affordable I’ll take, so I tried this ombré technique.
