Ron Isbell visits Paris during the summer of 2023, one year prior to the city hosting the Olympic Games. on July 19 how special it is to walk around host cities and see other fans dressed in their countries’ colors and waving flags — it is one of the main factors that keeps him going back.Isbell’s dedication isn’t without meticulous forethought. He plans two years in advance, buying his flights then hotels then event tickets.
The process of getting tickets to Olympic events has evolved through the years, according to Isbell. Attendees once purchased tickets blindly, without knowing which teams will be competing, but now it is possible to see who is playing and to buy seats accordingly.
Isbell’s Olympic experience isn’t just about the games, it’s also about the people he meets. Pin trading is a sport of its own each year, he said.“I’ve met people at other Olympics and so we’ve kept in touch over the years through Facebook, and kind of compare schedules for the next Olympics… you meet people from other countries and you may not even speak their language, but you’re able to do a pin trade,” he said.
Isbell advises that those without tickets can attend the free events held around the host city, including large viewing areas near parks and other public spaces., known as the Games of the XXXlll Olympiad, could draw more than a million to the city and are set to be the largest event ever organized in France. It’s scheduled from July 26 to Aug. 11.
