Jess Fox has had her dream of winning a third Olympic gold medal in Paris crushed, at least in part, by her own sister. With the C1 and K1 gold medals already safely in her back pocket, as well as the title of the greatest canoe slalom athlete of all time, Australia’s Olympic flag bearer was looking to make it three from three in the kayak cross — a new event added to the Paris schedule.
“Noemie and Jess Fox being in the same heat was just cruel, but so glad to see Noemie get her moment! Hopefully, she can go on and get that medal,” one said. “Brutal stuff — Noemie Fox wins her heat but Jess is unable to make it through,” another added. “Got trapped at the start, pushed out of the last upstream gate, and was always fighting from the back.
