Olivia Newton-John's memorable black motorcycle jacket from the 1978 film Grease fetched $476,250 at Julien's Auctions on December 13. The winning bid surpassed Florida's median home price of $433,000, according to Bankrate. The ' Hollywood Legends: Property From the Estate of Olivia Newton-John' auction, hosted by Julien's auction house, saw all 414 items sold, generating a total of $1.45 million.
Nearly 90 percent of the items exceeded their estimated values, highlighting the continued demand for collectibles tied to famous entertainers. Newton-John's Grease jacket, a signature fashion piece from her role as Sandy Olsson, was among the highest-priced items in the auction. It wasn't the only big-ticket item: Her turquoise Steinway baby grand piano sold for $158,750, and a stage-worn, rhinestone-studded motorcycle jacket fetched $76,200.In a previous auction in 2019, a different version of the Grease jacket was sold for charity at $243,200 before being returned to the singer as a gesture of goodwill. The auction featured an array of Newton-John's jewelry, including a Piaget diamond watch and a charm bracelet adorned with personal tokens, including a Grease-inspired charm. Art and home décor from her Santa Ynez estate, such as a Richard MacDonald bronze sculpture and her own watercolor paintings, added a personal touch to the collection. Ahead of the auction, a special exhibition at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry from November 22 to December 7 will celebrate Newton-John's legacy, marking a homecoming to the country music scene that launched her career.
