The Social Security Administration annually tracks the names given to girls and boys in each state, with lists dating back to 1880. And just in time for Mother’s Day, the agency on Friday released the most popular names from applications for Social Security cards.

Olivia and Liam were the most popular baby names in the United States in 2025, for the seventh year in a row. Based on cultural and demographic trends, the list shows how names can rise and fall in popularity. Charlotte climbed to second place among girls, ending Emma’s six-year run in the runner-up slot. Ava slipped out of the Top 10 and was replaced by Eliana.
