Oliver Stark as Buck in '9-1-1' flashes a big smile at something off camera
9-1-1’s Oliver Stark is ready for his character, Buck, to return bigger, badder, and more bisexual than ever for the ninth season of the fan-favorite procedural. Taking to social media to share a story in celebration of Bisexual Awareness Day , the actor filmed a steamy video of himself getting a sweat in on the treadmill while addressing his Instagram followers.
Sharing his gratitude for the bisexual community and how they’ve embraced his firefighting character, Stark said, “One of my biggest joys of playing Buck over the past eight/nine seasons is getting to tell the story of him discovering his bisexuality. I hope, truly, that we have offered up some kind of positive representation. I’m really super proud of getting to be part of this storyline.” And, for those wondering how Buck’s fight to feel more comfortable in his own skin will play out over the upcoming season, it sounds like the creative department are going to really lean into the character coming to a better place of self-understanding. “I know there are a lot of people that think things like, you know, bisexual men are just too scared to come out as gay or whatever it is, and obviously that’s not the case. I really hope we get to hammer home that point this season. I’m excited to delve deeper and deeper into it. It’s just such an honor to get to be a part of telling this story, so thank you guys.” What Oliver Stark’s Comments Could Mean For Season 9 Fans everywhere were rather perturbed at the end of Season 8 when Stark’s Buck and his on-screen bestie, Ryan Guzman’s Eddie, didn’t move their relationship into something more serious. Following the death of Peter Krause’s Captain Bobby Nash, the pair of actors were sent on a PR tour, during which they heavily teased the pair’s romantic potential. While Stark has stuck by his position of remaining totally open to the idea of Buck and Eddie becoming the long-shipped-after Buddie, Guzman sees things a little differently, previously saying, “I know a lot of people want to see something and maybe the enticing part is that and we keep it that . But I love that we get to depict on network television, a heterosexual man and homosexual man, and it doesn’t matter to them. They’re brothers. They love each other and they’re there to support each other and I think that’s all, honestly, what we need more in our world.” Do Stark’s recent comments tease a future for Buddie or does it point to the character striking up a connection with someone else? We’ll just need to wait to find out when 9-1-1 returns for its ninth season on October 9. 52 9.4/10 8 10 9-1-1 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-14 Drama Crime Action Release Date January 3, 2018 Network ABC, FOX Showrunner Tim Minear Directors Bradley Buecker, David Grossman, Brenna Malloy, Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Jann Turner, Jennifer Lynch, Marita Grabiak, Sarah Boyd, John J.
