It is important to be aware of which one-off payments you can expect
Over the next few weeks millions of people aged 66 or over will be receiving a number of one-off payments worth a total of more than £1,000. To help ease the financial pressure of higher bills and the ongoing cost of living crisis, there are four key payments being issued between now and the end of the year.
Due to this, it is important to be aware of which one-off payments you can expect. This will help you be able to plan your household budget and spending over winter. Older people or their friends and family can check their eligibility and get an estimate of what they may receive by using the online Pension Credit calculator on GOV.UK here. Alternatively, pensioners can contact the Pension Credit helpline directly to make a claim on 0800 99 1234 - lines are open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
If you did not meet either of these qualifying criteria, or if you live abroad, you may need to make a claim. If you’ve had a Winter Fuel Payment before, you do not need to claim again unless you’ve deferred your State Pension or moved abroad - find out more here. The Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2023/24 is now open with most energy providers and gives people on certain benefits £150 off their electricity bill.
