Auburn will face another dual threat quarterback when it hosts Oklahoma on Saturday
Freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. will start for Oklahoma against the Tigers Saturday, Sooners head coach Brent Venables said on his radio show Monday night.
Hawkins replaced starter Jackson Arnold during Oklahoma’s Week 4 loss to Oklahoma. He threw for 132 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-18 passing against Tennessee and added 22 more yards on the ground. Graduating from Frisco Emerson High School in Texas, Hawkins was a four-star recruit and was ranked as the 20th-best quarterback in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports.Hugh Freeze mentioned the problems Hawkins can cause for Auburn’s defense when addressing the media Monday as mobile quarterbacks have hurt the Tigers in each of their last two games.
"The second guy is like we faced the last few weeks. Runs around, makes plays with his feet as much as he does his arm,” Freeze said of Hawkins. “So, it’s a challenge if that’s who they go with.” If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
