Can the Southwestern Conference make the most of the Sweet 16 with two teams in the Division I regional semifinals?
A 1-0 loss at North Ridgeville led to another setback two days later on the Comets’ home field, spoiled their bid to end the Rangers’ reign atop the SWC since softball came back with spring sports in 2021. In that time, the SWC sent two of its best teams each season to the Sweet 16 for the OHSAA Division I regional semifinals.“No one remembers really much of what you did in the conference,” said Amherst junior outfielder Allie Jackson, citing a message from coach Lacey Reichert.

She also has two sophomores in the heart of her lineup, yet that youth and inexperience didn’t keep them from bouncing back after the losses to their conference rival.
Amherst is among five area teams from Northeast Ohio playing in the Division I regionals, which begin Wednesday in Youngstown and Clyde. Shelby and Nordonia will play host to the Division II regionals, while Berea has Divisions III and IV.
