The Ohio Supreme Court has upheld the language for State Issue One, a measure supporters claim will end gerrymandering, but opponents argue will exacerbate it.

The Ohio Ballot Board, led by Secretary of State Frank LaRose, met Wednesday morning to finalize the wording voters will see on the ballot.

The board is responsible for drafting the language of ballot issues, and the approved text suggests the measure would empower a new redistricting commission to gerrymander. Democrats on the board, who are in the minority, argue the language is misleading. Representative Terrance Upchurch, a Cleveland Democrat, expressed his frustration.

We're going to get to work," Upchurch said. "The same effort and enthusiasm that those folks put in to get those 700,000 signatures is the same effort and enthusiasm that we're going to put to make sure that they read through and weed through the bulls*** and pass this thing."LaRose emphasized the urgency of finalizing the language, stating there was no more time to debate the amendment's wording. LaRose did not stay to answer questions after the meeting.
