An Ohio State fan forum post highlights the team's unusual low play count during their championship season. The team averaged only 61.8 offensive plays per game, the lowest since 1976, and the defense faced an average of 60.8 plays, the fewest since 2010. This combined total of 122.6 plays per game is the lowest in at least 67 years, with a steady decline in offensive plays observed over the past six years.
Not only did we play 16 games for the first time and win the Nat Title, but in doing so we did some unusual things
The defense faced on average only 60.8 plays, the least since 2010 in Tressel's last year when we faced only 60.7. In fact the last time I can find where combined we ran less than 122.6 plays is 1957 when to O ran 62.7 and the D had 52.3 for a combined 115.0. IE fewest total plays per game in the last 67 years!!!
